IEC 61850 Namespace

All the IEC61850 datatype template elements are related to a type which is defined in a namespace.

Helinks STS contains by default several namespaces for edition 1 & 2 data definitions, as well as extensions for Hydro and DER.

The Namespace contains the following elements :

  • LogicalNode Types

  • DataObject Types

  • DataAttribut Types

  • Enum Types

  • Basic Types

  • Functional Constraints

  • Condition

Helinks STS allows you to create your own namespace to store your own datatypes. This is useful in the following context :

  • You define your specification and you would like to export cleaned datatype that contains only necessary element (e.g. doesn’t used some of the optional DO in an LNtype).

  • You define a datamodel for your own IED.

The Namespace is stored locally on your computer under:

· C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Helinks\STS\Libraries\DataTypes\


There are currently no integrated versioning feature of the namespace.

  • be careful, you are currently editing a local copy of the Namespace. The other users do not have access to this local copy.

  • store your changes in a secure place. In case of computer reinstallation or software reinstallation, the changes made on your local namespace copy will be lost.

The namespace editor is available on the Dashboard with the button “namespace Editor”

It will propose you a dialog to select an already available namespace to Edit or create a new namespace.

ASD (Application Specification Description)

Application templates can be exported as ASD files for interoperability with other IEC 61850-6-100-compatible tools. ASD files describe application-level communication structures in a standardized format.

SSD with IEC 61850-6-100

SSD export can now include IEC 61850-6-100 application data, enriching the system specification with standardized application descriptions. This allows downstream tools to import both the substation specification and the associated application definitions in a single file.
