System Specification

In IEC61850, a formal system specification will result in an SSD File. In Helinks STS, the specification serves an additional purpose: System integration and IED configuration are driven by specification data and a proper specification greatly increases engineering efficiency. System specification in STS takes place in several different diagram editors:

• Single Line Diagram
  A representation of the primary process is drawn here. In addition to the graphical elements, the act of drawing also creates data structures and definitions of the IEC 61850 data model far beyond what the diagram suggests at first glance.

• Function Specification Diagram
  The data structures created by the Single Line Diagram are expanded on and a complete functional description of the system's data is built.

• Application Editor
  The communication requirements of the system are specified using the IEC 61850 data defined in the previous steps in a device-independent way.
